That’s Just Bananas! 3 Years in Germany and we are Moving Again!

As my friend Mike said when he saw my post on Facebook regarding packing, That’s just bananas!  It really is,  We have been living here in Germany for just a few weeks shy of 3 years now.  How did the time fly by like that? We have met so many wonderful people, and seen lot’s of amazing places.  Now we are packing up again for another big move.

Well, not that big of a move in comparison to moving abroad. We are moving just a few towns away from where we live now.  But it really seems like a big move as I start the packing process.  We will be living in Weilerswist, so Dirk will still be a short drive away from the tattoo shop.  I will still be within walking distance to a bakery, so no need to worry about me.  I will survive.  Really, I will be move than surviving.  It will be wonderful!  We found a great house, with an amazing garden.  I can plant veggies to my hearts content!  We plan to have many garden gatherings after we get settled!

How the hell did we end up with so much stuff in just 3 years??  When we moved here to Germany, we each came with just 2 suitcases and a backpack.  That’s it!  Now my apartment looks like it has thrown up its own stomach contents all over the place.  It is chaos.  I have boxes stacked in every corner, and bags upon bags of linens, and clothing.

The thing is, we really haven’t bought much of anything since arriving.  As I have mentioned before, most of our apartment was furnished by friends and family.  As I begin to pack it all up, I am reminded again of just how lucky we are to have such an amazing support group of people here.  We are very lucky people to be surrounded with great people.  I will miss having my current neighbors close by.  I can only hope that we will have new neighbors that are even half as wonderful as our current people.

Jack the Dog and Newt the Cat are very confused.  The household is in disarray, and they are not pleased.  I think we will be forgiven as soon as we move into the new house, as Jack will have a large garden to do his Husky Tornadoes, or zoomies as some call them.  He will be So happy.  Newt will have two floors to call his own, I am sure he will be as judgemental as always.

As many of you know, I had Covid-19 a few months ago.  I am still recovering.  My strength is returning, slowly.  I still get tired very easily, and the chest pain has started to resolve, but returns whenever I exert myself.  It’s frustrating.  I want to get everything packed and ready, but I am still moving pretty slowly.  Still, I consider myself one of the very lucky ones, as I am still here to bitch about it all.

Here’s a look at the current state of things here at the apartment.  As you can see, it really is Bananas!

  1. That’s wonderful news. Congrats! Looking forward to lots of pics of your new place when you settle in. But please, take it easy and be good to yourself. Covid is nothing to sneeze at… so to speak.

  2. Wow. Packing after Covid-19? Now that’s strong! Good luck with your move, I know you must be so excited about the garden considering all that you managed to do on a small balcony!

    1. Thank you. It’s a bit of a struggle, but at least I can rest whenever I need to. Since we are moving in September, we are trying to figure out the best way to get all of my containers that are filled with plants, down the 4 flights of stairs and safely moved to the new place. It’s going to be crazy!

  3. I’m so happy you are going to get a garden. I know you’d be happy with Dirk anywhere, but a garden will be the icing on the cake!

  4. Yea for the garden! We live in Missouri and I do the flowers and my husband has the veggies. Good luck with the move-even under normal circumstances it is stressful. You have a new follower. I can’t wait to see your new house and garden. Take care, Terri G

  5. I love that you are getting your garden. We moved just before stuff happened, and I kind of regret it, for all flailing I did before. All the good vibes to you guys, though.

  6. Good luck with the move. My garden has been appreciated so much more this year, considering it’s the only place I’ve been since March! Sorry to hear you’ve still got the leftovers of Covid. Hope you’re fully recovered soon.
