Autumn Update: We Survived the Move!!

This morning, my writing friend, Lorna, told me to write.  So, I am happily taking a break from unpacking boxes to write an Autumn Update from Abroad.

We all survived the Big Move to Weillerswist. Much Ibuprofen has been taken by Dirk and I.  This colossal event was made possible by no less than 12 wonderful friends and family.  They had it all moved over in less than 2 hours!! Now all I have to do is unpack all of the bags/boxes and find places to put all of our shit.  We have been here a week and the garage is still jammed full of boxes, it seems to be a never ending job.

Binxy Cat LOVES the new place, she has spent every waking moment exploring the entire place.  Newt took a few days to warm up to the idea of a new home.  He hid under my blankets until he felt it was safe to explore, now, he owns the place.  Jack, well Jack is a very special boy.  He will finally explore the house, but will NOT under ANY circumstances, go up the stairs or down the stairs.  He prefers to stay on the main floor, thank you very much.  He enjoys the garden, but truly LOVES going for walks in the neighborhood.  So many walks, so many walks.  He sits and cries if he isn’t out for a walk at least every two hours.  I will have legs of steel with all of this walking.  I am hoping this obsession with seeing the world lessens just a bit, really soon.

We have a cute little apple tree in our yard, so the first thing I baked here was an apple pie, of course.  I would share a picture, but we ate it right away.  In other baking news, Cheyenne has started a new mini job.  She is a helper in a bakery in the town of Brühl.  After the first year is up, she can start her training there to become a pastry chef(closest translation I could think of).  She seems to like it, even though she has to be to work at 0600!

I was really hoping to be able to have a house warming party, but since we are in the midst of a pandemic, a party seems out of the question, sadly.  The second wave is moving through Europe right now, and I do not want to be a part of spreading the disease to anyone.

So that’s it, nothing more to report at this time.  We are all happy, healthy and safe at this very moment. I will send another update once I am out from under all of these damn boxes (Springtime I am guessing??)

So, although I will miss my views of the Cathedral, I think I will enjoy this view very much.

How about you all? Has your view changed any lately? Let me know in the comments!

  1. Wonderful to have that yard! Glad your move went okay and everyone can still walk (I assume?). My view changed last November, now facing the Square with more trees and birds seen my own balcony, which I have wanted for a long time. It’s been almost a year (and for 6 mos this has mostly been my life), but it still feels quite new! I’m growing veggies on my small balcony and have put up little white lights out there. Quite fun. Good luck in your new place!
