This past Sunday, we spent the afternoon hiking around a lake in the Eifel area of Germany. The area is hilly and very green. It’s just beautiful to drive through. It’s also an area that was created by volcanic activity.
This lake was created when a volcano cone collapsed well over 10, 000 years ago. Here you can find a great link about the lake and it’s volcanic history. On the far side of the lake CO2 bubbles up in the water and this is seen as the “dying breath of an old volcano”.
There is a nice path that circles the lake, and there are also boats for rent when the weather is nice. (6 euro for 1/2 hour with 2 people, each additional person is another euro) We had a hot day, but it was raining so we we not able to rent boats this time. (Hoping to have a chance on the next visit!).
You can see the Benedictine Monastery from the lake. The Monks own the surrounding farms and the lake. As you walk to the lake from the parking area, you can see the chickens and cows milling about.
The area is dog friendly, so we of course brought Jack along to check it all out. He met several other dogs along the way and seemed to be very pleased with his day out and about.
The trails were all very well kept and there were several benches set up along the way for those who needed a break. (Like these two. They sat and chatted while looking over the lake while Dirk and I walked the trails.)
We didn’t spend as much time here as I would have liked. The day was a little too warm to do much hiking with Jack. We brought plenty of water for him, but when he is tired and hot, he just sits down.( A lesson we humans should learn too) So, this is a spot we will return to when the weather is a bit cooler for the dog. There is so much more to see, and I am really looking forward to a return trip soon!
Sounds like a wonderful time, and you got some great pictures! It looks beautiful out there! 💖💖

Summer weather is here for sure! It’s sweltering here today, and I am not complaining a bit! Yes, Jack knows how to live, that is for sure. Naps frequently!

Looks like a great hike and I’m sure Jack loved it. Which makes me wonder if the cat gets jealous when the dog gets to go out with you.

It looks like you had a wonderful walk, Cherie. I love the look of the homes in the background with all that green. I imagine the lake is rather deep being once a volcano! Fascinating to think, I hadn’t thought of volcanic activity in Germany before (I love that kind of stuff).

I had not thought of Germany having volcanic activity either. My husband had told me about it a while back, and I thought maybe he had his words mixed up! LOL, shows what I know. I am looking forward to going back and doing some more exploring. There are lots of hiking spots through out this area.

It’s been in the 80’s and low 90’s the past week. I think it’s been hotter than usual.

It should. They have warm days too, just a little more rare than here. I think it was in the 50’s when I traveled in Scotland….in August!!

I’m more of a 70’s kind of girl myself. Unless it’s beach time. Then bring on the heat.

I hate being hot, so 50s and 60s year round would be ideal 😂😂

It sounds lovely–and the pictures are beautiful. Our dog Charlie is the same way. When he’s done, he’s done. He’ll find the first shady spot and lie down. If you want to go further, you’re carrying him or waiting until he’s good and ready.

Hard to believe there was a volcano standing there once – and how big it must have been if that lake is its crater! It looks like a beautiful spot and (as it’s pouring with rain here in Australia atm) I wouldn’t mind being there for a stroll around the lake!
Thanks for linking up with us at #MLSTL and I’ve shared this on my SM xx
